RINA New South Wales Section, together with the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology, hosts technical meetings, typically nine per year. The Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology meetings are held in-person, recorded, placed on the RINA YouTube channel (with permission), and are reported in The Australian Naval Architect.

RINA New South Wales Section, together with the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology ACT & NSW Branch, also organises SMIX (Sydney Marine Industry Christmas) Bash for the Sydney marine industry in December onboard Sydney Heritage Fleet’s barque, James Craig. Partners are welcome.

EVENTS

Technical meetings are generally combined with the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology ACT & NSW Branch, held on the first Wednesday of the month (February through October) at the Sydney Mechanics School of Arts or at a yacht club, starting at 18:00 for refreshments and 18:30 for the presentation, and finishing by 20:00. Guests are welcome.

Meetings are subject to change at short notice so, if you are making extensive arrangements to attend, then please confirm the date, time and place with the Secretary of the Section.

Marine AI looks to give uncrewed vessels a voice

The autonomy software developer Marine AI has launched a project in the hope of granting uncrewed vessels the ability to “communicate naturally” with other ships, in the manner of a human operator. The project has received the backing of the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA), a branch of the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) created to fund the development of innovate tech solutions for the British Armed Forces.
