Japan and the UK signed an Offshore Wind Compact on 14 June 2026, during Japanese prime minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Downing Street, committing Japan to facilitate up to £9 billion in investment for 5.9GW of floating offshore wind capacity in UK waters.

 

The compact covers three projects with Japanese company involvement. Ossian, the largest at 3.6GW, is planned approximately
