Fatemeh Asadi, a PhD student in ocean engineering at Texas A&M University at Galveston, has won the 2026 RINA Developing Careers Champion Award. The award recognises individuals who promote maritime careers and create development opportunities beyond what is normally expected of them. The nomination committee was struck not only by the breadth of Asadi’s activities, but by their scalability and the fact that many have been sustained and repeated year on year.

 

Asadi has built her record across two continents and multiple institutions, combining conference leadership, structured mentoring, technical training and student outreach into a coherent long-term strategy, all while still in the early stages of her own career.
