‘Design and Integration of WAPS with an Emphasis on Rigid Wing Sails’ delivered by BAR Technologies on 26th February at 18:30.
Location: Virtual Only
This lecture is online only - if you would like to attend the Zoom lecture please follow the link here.
Overview:
This technical lecture, delivered by BAR Technologies, shares industry insight from their experience with WindWings® (follows AGM).
This technical lecture, delivered by BAR Technologies, shares industry insight from their experience with WindWings® - one of the world’s leading WAPS, while also pertaining to the design and application of WAPS more broadly.
The lecture coves three main aspects of wind-assisted propulsion systems:
· Performance Factors and Aerodynamic Analysis
· Mechanical Design of WAPS
· Integration Aboard Vessels – Considerations and Challenges
Jaime Benthem studied a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manchester, and did a master's degree in Advanced Computational Methods for Aeronautics at Imperial College London. He currently works as a Performance and Simulation Engineer in BAR Technologies, and his work revolves around analysing and optimising the performance of the WindWings on the water.
Oliver Hall has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Loughborough University, including a year's industry placement. He currently works within the engineering department at BAR Technologies as a mechanical design engineer, mainly focusing on the design and optimisation of WindWings®.
Harris Wingfield-Hayes is a Naval Architect within the Ocean-Going Vessels department of BAR Technologies, working primarily on the integration of WAPS on a wide range of vessel types. He holds a combined bachelors and masters degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, paired with relevant experience in the maritime industry.
This lecture will follow the Southern Joint Branch AGM.
