London Branch Event: Time-Domain Motion and Loading Analysis for Naval Architects

Event Information:

This presentation will cover the fundamentals of time-domain analysis methodology.  The presentation is aimed at naval architects to provide a broad understanding of the application of time-domain analysis as a tool for vessel motion and mooring system response prediction.

Speaker:

Alwyn is a charter naval architect and Fellow of RINA with over 30 years’ experience.

He holds a B.Eng. degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Glasgow University and also a Ph.D. degree in The Dynamic Response of Tension Leg Platforms during Teether Installation, also from Glasgow University.

Alwyn is currently the floating systems technical authority for bp, covering both operations and projects, based in the Sunbury offices.  He joined bp in 2008, initially in bp shipping supporting the operations of the Schiehallion FPSO.  He then moved into bp upstream and joined the Safety and Operational Risk assurance team.  He has attended offshore most of the bp fleet of offshore floating units over a number of years. 

Prior to joining bp and after completing his Ph.D. research he joined LR in the offshore floating units group in London in 1997.  He has been based in London, Aberdeen and Singapore and also visited many of the major shipyards in the far east.

Prior to joining LR, he held a research assistant position a Glasgow University hydrodynamics laboratory, conducting model testing research into the uncertainties in loads on offshore structures (ULOS programme).
