On behalf of the RINA London Branch we would like to invite you to the following event:
“An Update on Underwater Hull Coating Technology and the Challenges in Coating Scrubber Penetrations”
By Mr. Carl Barnes, Head of Marine Consultancy, Safinah
Date: Wednesday, 25th February 2026
Time: 17:30 for 18:00-19:15 hours (duration approximately 1 ¼ hours)
Venue: The Royal Institution of Naval Architects, 8-9 Northumberland Street, London, WC2N 5DA
Organiser: SNAME Western Europe
Meeting Type: In Person
Event Information:
Hull coatings for marine ships have always been critical in preventing corrosion and deterring the settlement of fouling species. However, increasing regulation such as the IMO targets to reduce shipping's greenhouse gas emissions and to minimise the transfer of invasive species, has significantly added to the performance requirements placed hull coatings in addition to the requirement to protect the hull from the corrosive environment encountered around scrubber penetrations.
Speaker:
Carl Barnes joined the coating industry in 1995 as a graduate chemist working in technical support and new product development. Since then, he has had extensive experience in the marine coatings industry, in technical, commercial and marketing roles. He has a specialist knowledge of marine fouling control and regulatory aspects. Prior to joining Safinah, Carl was Global Marketing Manager in Marine Fouling Control for one of the world’s largest coatings companies.
ALL are welcome. CPD certificates available upon request.
