On behalf of the RINA London Branch we would like to invite you to the following event. This event is in-person and online.
“An Introduction to Navigational Risk”
by Eden Connolly, Senior Marine Risk Analyst at ABL
Date: Wednesday, 15th April 2026
Time: 17:30 for 18:00-19:15 hours (duration approximately 1 ¼ hours)
Venue: ABL Group, 1st Floor, The Northern & Shell Building, 10 Lower Thames Street, London, EC3R 6EN.
Organiser: RINA London Branch
Meeting Type: Hybrid.
Event Information:
This presentation offers a concise overview of how spatial data and vessel behaviour are used to identify and visualise areas of maritime risk. The presentation introduces the key components of risk (likelihood and consequence). Case studies will be shared with how this is used in real projects. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how traffic analysis can inform safer navigation, planning, and decision making in the marine environment.
Speaker:
Eden Connolly is a Senior Marine Risk Analyst at ABL and has worked on a variety of navigational risk projects ranging from new Offshore Windfarms to Emergency Towage Vessel provisioning to vessel analysis for ports across the UK and Europe.
Eden has experience in the maritime sector gained from working at the UK Hydrographic Office. Eden supported submarine operations by producing bespoke GIS products and analysis for the Royal Navy, Defence Intelligence Maritime, and other areas of the Ministry of Defence.
Eden also developed Python scripts and managed the standardisation of over 15 million rows of sensitive maritime data, improving operational data quality and supporting decision-making in high-security environments.
Prior to joining UKHO, Eden worked in GIS data quality assurance, network design, and traffic management optimisation using geospatial data. Eden’s technical expertise includes ArcGIS, QGIS, ERDAS Imagine, SQL, and Python, alongside practical experience operating UAVs, laser scanners, and Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers for coastal and marine monitoring projects.
Eden holds a First-Class BSc in Geography from the University of Southampton and an MSc in Geographical Information Management and Application from Utrecht University, where their research included climate risk modelling and marine environmental studies.
The presentation will be preceded by the AGM.
ALL are welcome to attend.
CPD certificates will be available upon request.
