A new ferry concept, tailored specifically to the operational and economic requirements of the Greek domestic ferry market, stands out for its focus on efficiency, simplicity and cost control.
Greek operators are working within a highly constrained environment, shaped by strong seasonality, regulated pricing and increasing pressure on operating costs, alongside the need to renew an ageing fleet.
For Foreship, RINA’s naval architecture and marine engineering company behind the new Greek ferry concept, a central element is operational efficiency.
Speed remains an important consideration in the Greek ferry sector, where operating requirements vary across routes. The new design therefore focuses on efficient performance across different operating speeds, helping to reduce fuel consumption and improve overall operating economics.
“The concept has been developed with a clear focus on achieving low capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating expenditure (OPEX) without compromising safety or passenger comfort,” says Ari Huttunen, Marine Design & Engineering Projects Principal Consultant at Foreship.
He explains that the design team focused on optimising the vessel’s hull form and main dimensions to achieve
