Ship & Boat International: eNews February 2018

Honolulu-based tour operator Hawaii Experiences has placed a repeat order with Washingtonian builder Armstrong Marine, following the successful handover of the aluminium catamaran tour boat, Mirai (pictured, right).

Featuring a length of 12.2m, a 4.7m beam and a depth of 1.52m, and designed to carry up to 49 passengers per journey, plus a three-man crew, Mirai has been deployed to offer tourists close-up views of marine life, plus the opportunity to partake in snorkelling. The boat’s features include a sun canopy and an aft-raised wheelhouse, the latter granting the coxswain optimal visibility, and her exterior has been clad in vinyl wrap, as a lightweight alternative to paint.

Mirai is powered by four Evinrude G-2 E-TEC outboard engines, which serve up a combined 746kW and enable a service speed of nearly 41knots. This package includes Evinrude's E-TEC controls suite, for enhanced manoeuvrability in tight spots and improved ergonomics for the coxswain. The cat has been certified to the US Coast Guard’s (USCG’s) Subchapter T requirements for small passenger vessels under 100gt.
