The NSW Section Committee met on 10 July and, other than routine matters, discussed:

Alastair Cooper, of the Royal Australian Navy, gave a presentation on Upgrade or Replace: A Cost Comparison of Australian Warship Service Lives to a joint meeting with the IMarEST attended by 14 on 4 July in the Harricks Auditorium at Engineers Australia, Chatswood.

Bernie O’Shea, Design Manager at SilverYachts, gave a presentation on Design and Construction of SilverYachts to a joint meeting with the IMarEST attended by 27 on 6 June in the Harricks Auditorium at Engineers Australia, Chatswood.

John Lewis, Principal Marine Consultant, ES Link Services, gave a presentation on Biofouling on Ships: Character, Consequences, Concerns and Control to a joint meeting with the IMarEST attended by 23 on 2 May in the Harricks Auditorium at Engineers Australia, Chatswood.

 

Fletcher Thompson, PhD candidate at the Australian Maritime College, gave a presentation on Robust Mission Planning for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles Cooperatively Inspecting Subsea Structures to a joint meeting with the IMarEST attended by 13 on 4 April in the Harricks Auditorium at Engineers Australia, Chatswood.

The NSW Section Committee met on 27 March and, other than routine matters, discussed:

Sean Langman, Managing Director, Belinda Tayler, General Manager Defence and Commercial, and Tim Sullivan, Engineering Manager, gave a presentation on A New Lease of Life for Sydney’s Iconic Floating Dock to a joint meeting with the IMarEST attended by 60 on 7 March in the Harricks Auditorium at Engineers Australia, Chatswood. This was the second-highest attendance of the 103 technical presentations held at the Enginers Australia Chatswood venue, and second only to Sean’s presentation on The Quest for Speed Under Sail back in March 2014!

The NSW Section Committee met on 13 February and, other than routine matters, discussed:

Alex Robbins, MATV Acquisition Engineering Manager, Contractor to Defence, gave a presentation on Acquisition of a Multi-role Aviation Training Vessel for the Royal Australian Navy Multihulls to a joint meeting with the IMarEST attended by 43 on 7 February May in the Harricks Auditorium at Engineers Australia, Chatswood.

The eighteenth SMIX (Sydney Marine Industry Christmas) Bash was held on Thursday 7 December aboard the beautifully-restored James Craig alongside Wharf 7, Darling Harbour, from 1730 to 2130. The Bash was organised jointly by the IMarEST (Sydney Branch) and RINA (NSW Section). About 185 guests came from the full spectrum of the marine industry, including naval architects, marine engineers, drafters, boatbuilders, machinery and equipment suppliers, regulators, classifiers, surveyors, operators, managers, pilots, navigators, researchers, and educators. Equally importantly, the full spectrum of age groups was represented, from present students to the elders of the marine community.
