Summary
The intact stability of 27 fishing vessels, mainly from the Portuguese and Peruvian fishing fleet, are studied, after an overview of the International Code on Intact Stability (2008 IS Code, Part A). The variations of dynamic transverse intact stability of the fishing vessels under three operational loading conditions are calculated and analyzed for two representative longitudinal waves. The wave parameters considered were the following: s=1/20 and (a) /Lpp=1, (b) /Lpp=1.6, with wave crest position varied along the vessel’s length. Based on these calculations, and considering critical operational loading condition, size, hull form and other characteristics of fishing vessels, some light is shed on the occurrence of partial or total stability failure. Finally, conclusions are drawn about the 2008 IS Code, and the loss of fishing vessel’s intact stability in longitudinal waves.
