Synopsis:

 

Today merchant shipping is facing new challenges with environment legislation compliance while remaining competitive and commercially viable. There are various paths to choose from and new technologies and solutions being available and introduced to the industry. The new technologies will assist the industry to not only comply with regulations but also help the cause of IMO’s vision of environment protection and remain sustainable in the operations. Wartsila has introduced a number of new technologies to meet the expectations and demands of the industry and this talk will introduce some of these technologies to the audience.

 

Presenters Profile:

 

Sharad Sinha is a marine engineer from India’s prestigious Directorate of Marine Engineering Training (DMET). He started his sea career in 1988 and served on various merchant vessels for over 12 years with last 6 years being Chief Engineer. He worked with Indian Register of Shipping as an engineer surveyor as his first on shore employment and thereafter Reliance Industries Limited as General Manager, shipping division. He then joined Wartsila India in 2004 as sales manager in the newbuilding division and since 2008 as General Manager, new building division, being responsible to serve the customers in shipyards and ship owners in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Mr Sinha then moved to Wartsila Dubai in 2017, where he has worked in various capacities primarily serving the customers in the Merchant segment. He currently holds the position of sales manager propulsion and serving customers worldwide. In this position, he is also focusing a lot on new energy saving technologies being introduced to the shipping industry.

   Presenter Profile:

 

Tore Søreide started his career in 2003 after finishing his technical degree in Trondheim. He moved back to Ålesund and started working for MMC (Havyard MMC) working with Sales and project management for above 10 years. During these years he was in addition involved with several research projects with Sintef Fiskeri and Havbruk. After 10 years Tore moved on and Started Working for Kongsberg Maritime (Rolls-Royce) He has been working with all the products in the portfolio and focusing to deliver the complete solution to the customer. Tore is now currently working as a Sales Manager for Conversions and Performance related sales.

Synopsis:

 

Electrical propulsion, data-driven decision support and integrated solutions from ABB Marine & Ports are paving the way to zero-emission marine industry, providing greater efficiency and reliability to ship owners and shipyards.

 

As the industry is undergoing a digital transformation with guidelines and support from both International Maritime Organization and various governmental bodies, it is important to be prepared for the digital wave before it hits your shore.

 

Technologies such as Energy Storage Systems, DC Grid allows for efficient and eco-friendly electric power distribution system thus enhancing the overall CAPEX and reducing the OPEX through reduced fuel consumption and prolonged maintenance intervals. Fuel Cell technology and autonomous technologies are no longer buzzwords for ABB as we are equipped with the knowledge and expertise and have proven case studies and references available globally.

 

Presenters Profile:

 

Dr. Alf Kåre Ådnanes first joined ABB in 1991. He has worked in various positions including corporate research, marine engineering and projects delivery, product management and development, and technology management for the global marine business. He was ABB Marine & Ports China General Manager from 2016 to 2020. Starting from 2021, he is appointed as Regional Manager for ABB Marine & Ports AMEA (Asia, Middle East and Africa).

 

Alf Kåre holds MSc and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

Presenter Profile:

 

After Mattias Hansson earned his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, he entered the maritime industry world to follow his passion for propulsion solutions by challenging the status quo for sustainability and efficiency.

 

With nearly two decades of experience in the maritime industry as a project -, sales and senior manager, Mattias Hansson developed a deep knowledge and understanding about the propulsion technology, its limitations and opportunities. Driven by his passion for propulsion, ship solutions and innovative technology, Mattias Hansson becomes one of the inventors of the Berg Propulsion “Twin Fin” ship propulsion concept and the inventor for “Electrical Direct Drive” main propulsion solution.

 

As a Global Account Manager at Berg Propulsion, Mattias Hansson manages and leads not only large and complex projects globally, he is in his role the crucial link that ensures the success between the internal teams (sales, development and engineering teams at the company) and external teams (customers and partners). Each project is unique and has his own challenges, technically and commercially, which demands an overall tight and agile collaboration work, with the shared goal to find the optimum concept and total solution for the customer to achieve lowest TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).
