Six RAL tugs for Med Marine

MedWebsiteShip & Boat International: January/February 2017

Turkish tugboat builder and operator Med Marine will expand its tug fleet in 2017 with six newbuilds, all to be constructed to the specs of Robert Allan Limited’s (RAL’s) RAmparts 2300 class, which was designed exclusively for Med Marine. All six newcomers to the fleet will be completed and rolled out before the end of the year.

The RAmparts 2300models comprise 23m x 10.9m azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugboats, each fitted with a pair of CAT 3512C main engines, rated 1,380bKw at 1,600rpm apiece, and two Schottel SRP 340 FP thrusters. Each tug will be capable of achieving a bollard pull (bp) of 50tonnes. Two CAT C4.4 generators, each rated 86kWe, are also installed onboard.

The vessels will also be tasked with tackling blazes, having been classed by Italy’s RINa to Firefighting Ship E with Water Spray notation.

The contract announcement was made in late December 2016, in tandem with the launch of Med Marine’s new RAmparts 2500W tugboat (pictured). Measuring 25.6m in length, and with a bp rating of 70tonnes, the newbuild – which has been produced under the project name of ‘Eregli 52’ – incorporates two CAT 3561C main engines, each rated 2,100kW at 1,600rpm, and two Schottel SRP 1515 CP units.
