INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SHIP & OFFSHORE TECHNOLOGY - INDIA 2015
Call for Papers
“Coastal and Inland Shipping”
10 - 11 December 2015, Kharagpur, India.
Organised by
The Royal Institution of Naval Architects
and
Department of Ocean Engineering & Naval Architecture, IIT Kharagpur.
Overview of the Conference
Maritime transport has been recognized as the most fuel efficient, cost effective and environment friendly transport system. In India, about 7% of the freight moves by the coastal ships and less than 0.50% moves by the inland waterways. The dependence on the road and rail sector for freight movement has increased the logistics cost in India considerably. The aim of this conference is to promote inland and coastal navigation in Indian transport sector. This will require innovative thinking from all sectors of the maritime industry, and particularly those involved in ship design and construction.
The theme of the fourth International Conference on Ship & Offshore Technology - India 2015 will be on "Coastal and Inland Shipping". It will bring together members of the international maritime industry to present and discuss the latest developments in the ship design and construction process which will provide the improvements in productivity and cost-competitiveness of coastal and inland shipping.
Kharagpur is the fifth largest city of West Bengal. It was chosen as the location for the first campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The IITs are the premier technical education institutes in India and are internationally recognised for their academic and technical excellence. IIT Kharagpur started in the old Hijli Detention Camp where some of India's great freedom fighters toiled and sacrificed their lives for Indian independence. The history of IIT Kharagpur is intimately linked with the history of the Hijli Detention Camp. This is possibly one of the very few Institutions anywhere in the world which started life in a prison house.
