Canadian Atlantic Branch News

The ONAE Annual Student Technical Conference is jointly organized by the Department of Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering (ONAE), Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, Memorial University (MUN), the Canadian Atlantic Branch of The Royal Institution of Naval Architects, and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers Canadian Atlantic Section and Student Section. This
conference aims to bring together senior undergraduate students and graduate students in Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering, present their research activities and design projects, and share and discuss their ideas and research with each other.

The graduating class of Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering (ONAE) students at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) presented their final semester design projects on Tuesday March 28, 2019.

On March 22, 2019, the Canadian Atlantic Branch of RINA organized the event: “What’s next after graduation?”

On March 04, 2019, the Canadian Atlantic Branch of RINA organized a meeting with Engineering One undergraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

On November 30, 2018, the Canadian Atlantic Branch of RINA organized a visit to the CCGS Louis S. St-Laurent, a Heavy Arctic Ice Breaker of the Canadian Coast Guard. The visit was aimed at Term 3 and Term 6 students in Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering (ONAE) at Memorial University of Newfoundland. This was a great opportunity for these future Naval Architects to understand the applications to real ships of concepts acquired during lectures.

The Canadian Atlantic Branch of RINA kindly thanks the Canadian Coast Guard for having provided ONAE students with this exceptional opportunity.

Dr. Jaeyong Lee, Associate Professor at the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Dong-eui University, Republic of Korea, presented a lecture on November 14, 2018, entitled "Station Keeping Simulation and Experiment for Floating Type Structure in the Arctic Ocean'.The talk was attended by students in Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering at Memorial University, Professional Engineers and Researchers from Memorial University and National Research Council of Canada.

The graduating class of Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering (ONAE) students at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) presented their final semester design projects on Tuesday March 27, 2018.

The ONAE Program at MUN is very fortunate to receive support from RINA and BMT Fleet Technology Limited who offer the RINA-BMT Marine Student Naval Architect Award annually. The award is made to the ONAE students with the best senior design project.
