This 4 and a half day course covers the fundamentals and calculations of dry docking. The course begins with the basics and safety concerns, and progresses through all phases of dry docking: preparation, docking, lay period, undocking. and ends with a discussion of Accidents and Incidents.
It's designed to be relevant to Dock Masters, Docking Officers, Engineers, Naval Architects, Port Engineers and others involved in the dry docking of ships and vessels. The course is presented through classroom lectures, student participation in projects and practical application exercises. The course addresses the deck plate level of practical operation needed by the dock operator and the universally accepted mathematical calculations required to carry out operations in accordance with established sound engineering practices.

About the Course Leader
Mr. Brown served in the United States Navy for thirty-seven years, retiring at the grade of Commander. His two duty assignments preceding his retirement were as Commanding Officer of the Navy's Floating Dry Docks STEADFAST (ARDM-14) and SUSTAIN (AFDM-7), respectively. During his tour as Commanding Officer of the SUSTAIN, he had dual responsibility as Commanding Officer of the United States Navy Docking Officer Training Course. Upon his retirement from the Navy through early 2000, he conducted Dock Master training and dry dock consulting through his company ALBRAVCO. He brings to the training arena, a vast and broad-based knowledge of numerous and complex docking situations. Mr. Brown qualified and served as a NAVSEA certified Docking Officer, Ballast Control Officer, and Master Training Specialist.
