I was aboard the MS Explorer that sank last week. I put up a story for friends and family at www.flickr.com/photos/andywhite70/sets/ As a Naval Architect it was an "interesting" experience to experience at first hand abandoning ship.
I understand the flag state (Liberia) will be carrying out an investigation, but it would appear that they only wish to contact the crew for their accounts. As a passenger and Naval Architect I consider that our experience is of benefit in helping understand the accident and also some lessons learned.
I plan to draft a paper outlining the experience from my first hand point of view and then attempt to draw some conclusions relating to passenger ship safety in general and more specifically in relation to cruise ships working in ice areas. I would be grateful for contact with any members with experience in this area. (my email is vp98 at dial.pipex.com) I would then propose to post the draft paper to this forum for discussion.
Concept SFTS-1500 presents some fundamental solutions that distinguish this system from other conventional maritime freight systems. The submarine freight ship is the most important component of SFTS system. Its architecture is based on simple enough modules and elements that have a real chance to facilitate the construction and to make it cheaper relating to some surface ships (it will be incomparably cheaper relating to any middle size submarine).
Concept presented by Vladimir Postnikov (St. Petersburg). The full presentation is posted in the News section of the Technical Forum - Commercial (large) Vessels
