Significant Ships  is a quality annual publication providing an invaluable reference source to some of the very best in today's ship design and construction. It gives technical details of approximately 50 selected merchant ships of all classes and types, mostly of some 100m in length and above, which were completed last year by shipyards worldwide.

  • Energy Advance, probably the largest LNG carrier in service built by Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corporation, Japan, for Tokyo LNG Tanker Co Ltd/Mitsui OSK Line, Japan,
     
  • Bastø III, double-ended shuttle ferry from Gdansk Shiprepair Yard Remontowa SA, Poland for Bastø Fosen AS, Norway,
  •  Ottomana, Turkish-built product tanker for Italian owner, from Celik Tekne Shipyard, for Mediterranea di Navigazione SpA, Italy,
  • Benchijigua Express, world's first trimaran ro-pax ferry from Austal Ships, Australia for Lineas Fred Olsen's Canary Islands operations.
  • Plus many more.

Significant Ships of 2005 follows the format of the fifteen previous editions. Two pages are devoted to every entry; on the first page appears a photograph of the ship in question (all in full colour), followed by a concise technical description highlighting the key features, this is supported by a comprehensive tabular list, detailing technical data. On the following page appears a set of general arrangement plans.

Significant Ships has been compiled by John Lingwood, MRINA , and his readable and expert text records valuable advances in international shipbuilding. Following the success of the previous editions, Significant Ships of 2005 proves once again that it is the most comprehensive publication of its kind available.
