Significant Ships  is a quality annual publication providing an invaluable reference source to some of the very best in today's ship design and construction. It gives technical details of approximately 50 selected merchant ships of all classes and types, mostly of some 100m in length and above, which were completed last year by shipyards worldwide.

  • Norilskiy Nickel - Arctic double-acting cargo ship from Aker Yards (Helsinki), for loading semi-finished metal products. UMIAK 1, ice-strengthened bulk carrier for Canadian operations from Universal Shipbuilding.
  • Pauline - first five-deck freight ro-ro ship from Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft.
  • Freedom of the Seas - Royal Caribbean cruise liner for 3600 passengers from Aker Yards (Turku).
  • F S Charlotte - combined molten sulphur and bitumen tanker from Yardimci Shipyard.
  • Clipper Karina - first of new series of chemical/product tankers from STX.
  • Crystal Diamond - 9950dwt stainless-steel chemical tanker from INP Heavy Industries.
  • Gotlandia 2 - fast monohull ferry for Swedish operator from Fincantieri.
  • Seatrout - Lindenau's newest  40,000dwt 'green' tanker.
  • Bergensfjord - LNG-powered Norwegian domestic ferry.

Plus many more.

Significant Ships of 2006 follows the format of the sixteen previous editions.  Two pages are devoted to every entry; on the first page appears a photograph of the ship in question (all in full colour), followed by a concise technical description highlighting the key features, this is supported by a comprehensive tabular list, detailing technical data.  On the following page a set of general arrangement plans appears.

Significant Ships has been compiled by John Lingwood, MRINA, and his readable and expert text,  records valuable advances in international shipbuilding.  Following the success of the previous editions, Significant Ships proves once again that it is the most comprehensive publication of its kind available.
