Improving the Safety of General Cargo Ships

What are General Cargo Ships?
The term "general cargo ship" covers many different ship designs that do not fit into other more specialised dry cargo types such as bulk carriers, container ships and Ro-Ro ships. In general, their distinctive feature is an ability to carry diverse types of lift-on/lift-off cargo. They include multi-purpose cargo ships, traditional tween-deck designs, and many small coasters [1].

Concept of Submarine Freight Transportation System - SFTS-1500

Concept SFTS-1500 presents some fundamental solutions that distinguish this system from other conventional maritime freight systems. The submarine freight ship  is the most important component of SFTS system. Its architecture is based on simple enough modules and elements that have a real chance to facilitate the construction and to make it cheaper relating to some surface ships (it will be incomparably cheaper relating to any middle size submarine).

IACS Common Structural Rules for Tankers and Bulkcarriers

On 14 Dec 2005, the Common Structural Rules for Tankers and Bulkcarriers were unanimously adopted by the IACS Council for implementation on 1st April 2006.  The new rules are based on sound technical grounds, and are intended to achieve the goals of more robust and safer ships. In particular, the common rules remove competition on scantlings for each ship type.
