Overview

ICCAS 2007 will be the 13th International Conference on Computer Applications in Shipbuilding. The 2007 conference will be held in Portsmouth, UK, on 18-20 September 2007. The conference will review operational experience from existing computer applications in the design and build of ships and offshore structures. It will also examine the advances in Information Technology which have contributed to increased productivity in both shipbuilding and maritime operations; including increasing co-operative working between shipyards, marine equipment and system manufacturers, engineering partners and shipping companies.

Content

The conference will cover the full range of topics related to computer applications for:

  • Concept design, tendering, initial design, general arrangement, cost and work estimation, hull form, hydrodynamic analysis and basic structural design, risk based design
  • Detailed and production design
  • Structure, machinery, hull and outfitting design
  • Parts manufacturing and assembly
  • Prefabrication, shop automation, robotics, assembly, simulations and accuracy control
  • Material Management
  • Material control, supply chaim management, logistics and e-solutions 
  • Inspection and maintenance
  • Life-cycle maintenance, parts and systems reliability, inspection standards and risk management
  • Knowledge management and innovation management.

Authors should focus their papers on advances made in information and communication technology with respect to methods, tools, standards and organisational adaptations in the different application sectors of the shipbuilding industry. A reflection on the potential impact of the innovation described to productivity improvements is appreciated.

The conference will attract a large international audience and provide a forum and means of professional development for all parties interested in computer applications in shipbuilding.

Accommodation information

Accommodation is available at the Portsmouth University Halls of Residence, which is a 3 star hotel during the summer period.  All of the rooms are ensuite and Breakfast is also included in the cost.  Double rooms are also available upon request; the price on a per person basis, therefore double rooms are twice the price of single rooms.

3 nights (17th - 19th September) £120 +VAT (£141)
Additional nights (16th and / or 20th) £45 +VAT (£52.88) per night.   

The university accommodation can be booked directly through RINA when you register for the conference.

Information for Authors

All authors have been contacted to confirm that their paper has been included on the conference programme and to provide further information relating to paper deadlines and the format requirements.  If your paper has been included on the preliminary programme, but you have not received any confirmation, please contact Lewis Northcott - Technical Manager, at the earliest opportunity.  It is important that all authors who have been invited to present their papers, provide confirmation as to whether they will be able to accept the invitation. 

The deadline for submission of the final paper will be 13th August 2007.

The final copies of the papers should be emailed to Lewis Northcott - Technical Manager () by the 13th August 2007. The papers should be submitted in 'Microsoft Word' format in accordance with the guidelines.  The papers should not be greater than 14 pages in length.  For submissions greater than 20MB file size, it is recommended that a CD copy is posted to RINA HQ.  When your paper has been received you will be sent an email confirmation.

In addition to submission of the conference paper which will be printed in the conference proceedings, authors will be expected to make a presentation at the conference.  A 35min slot is allocated per paper; this allows 25-30mins for the presentation and 5-10mins for questions.  The presentation should be made using Microsoft PowerPoint.  It is advised that all authors submit a copy of their presentation one week before the conference (this can be a draft copy); this is for testing purposes, to help reduce the likelihood of technical problems on the day.  If you presentation contains large video images, there is potential for problems if they are untested.

It is important that all authors / co-authors who wish to attend are registered with our conference organiser.  The registration fee for authors and co-authors is £500 per person.  The registration form is included at the back of the Author's information document.

An updated copy of the conference programme will be released in due course.  This will include timings for each paper which will also have been divided into the appropriate streams.

Venue Information

This conference will be held in Portsmouth, UK. Portsmouth is a historic naval city located on the south coast of England, in close proximity to the Isle of Wight.  The home of the Royal Navy and the Historic Dockyard, Portsmouth has a great deal of marine heritage.  The 'Mary Rose' Museum, 'HMS Victory' and 'HMS Warrior' are on view.
