Council and Committees
Council
The Institution's governing body is its Council, elected from and by all members of the Institution. The Council is responsible for defining the strategy of the Institution and setting its policy. The Institution is governed in acordance with its By Laws and Council Rules.
Members serve for a period of 3-years before re-election, and following the 2007 elections, 15 countries are represented on the Council.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is responsible to the Council for the management of the Institution, in accordance with the strategy and policy set by Council. The Executive Committee comprises its Chairman and members appointed by Council, chairmen of Standing Committees and the Chief Executive.
Standing Committees
The Institution's Standing Committees act on behalf of Council on all routine matters relating to their areas of delegated responsibility. They provide guidance to Council on matters arising from their specialist interests and speak on behalf of Council when called upon to do so. Standing Committees cover the following areas of Institution activity:
