Project and heavy lift carrier Beluga Shipping is a leading specialist for tailor-made transportation solutions with headquarters in Bremen, Germany. The company was founded back in 1995 by CEO Niels Stolberg, a master mariner and industrial engineer for maritime traffic who was awarded Germany's "Entrepreneur of the Year 2006".

On site in ten international locations on four continents the company pursues a direct customer's approach philosophy and offers a complex service package from planning, engineering and supervising to loading, shipping and discharging the cargo. Beluga Shipping embodies the full range of competencies as a professional, international logistics service provider on tramp shipping duty. The young and modern fleet comprises 57 multipurpose heavy lift project carriers and will be strategically expanded to 75 units by 2010. These carriers are to be classified within a three-types-strategy. They provide for between 10,000 and 20,000 tons deadweight capacities, adjustable tweendecks enabling a flexible and safe stowage of the cargo, as well as sophisticated on-board crane gear with independent lifting capacities of up to 700 tons in tandem usage at the moment or a perspective 1400 tons lifting power when the newly designed Beluga P1- and P2-series vessels start running their business as from 2009 onwards.

Beluga 2 One of Beluga's vessels crossing the oceans since 2008 is MV "Beluga SkySails", the world's first carrier newbuilding with additional propulsion by a towing kite system. The application of this innovation reduces consumption of bunker by initially 15 percent and cuts down the harmful emissions of greenhouse gases.
