Intelligent Engineering (IE)
IE invented and patented the Sandwich Plate System (SPS) and leads the development of SPS applications and products.
According to Lloyd's Register "... (the) revolutionary Sandwich Plate System is superior in every practical way to conventional, stiffened steel plate...."
Sandwich Plate System (SPS)
SPS is a new generation building material for ship repair, building and civil engineering. It is a composite of two metal plates bonded with a polyurethane elastomer core to deliver:
- Faster, simpler fabrication
- Improved performance
- Increased safety
SPS was used in its first commercial project in 2000, now over 120 projects have been completed and there is more than 100,000 m² of SPS in ships, bridges, buildings, and stadia around the world.
Repair and conversion - SPS Overlay
SPS Overlay is a permanent Class approved method for the repair, strengthening and conversion of maritime and offshore structures. SPS Overlay is up to four times faster than conventional "crop and repair" techniques and results in permanently flat, impact resistant surfaces and increased operational efficiencies.
Low-heat and no-heat SPS options are also available for in-situ repairs to oil & gas structures.
Maritime newbuild
SPS panels for new construction are prefabricated and delivered ready for assembly. Using SPS does away with the need for secondary stiffening and the associated intersections and welding; saving time and delivering simplified, easy to maintain structures with longer service lives.
Working with SPS
IE's years of experience designing, testing and securing regulatory approval is available to naval architects working with SPS.
