ICCAS 2011 will be the 15th International Conference on Computer Applications in Shipbuilding.

The conference will review operational experience from existing computer applications in the design and build of ships and offshore structures.

It will also examine the advances in Information Technology which have contributed to increased productivity in both shipbuilding and maritime operations; including increasing co-operative working between shipyards, marine equipment and system manufacturers, engineering partners and shipping companies.

Content

The conference will cover the full range of topics related to computer applications, including separate programs, integrated systems, knowledge management, simulation and virtual reality applications, for: 

  • Early design, including concept design, tendering, initial design, general arrangement,  cost and work estimation, hull form, hydrodynamic analysis and basic structural design,   risk based design.  
  • Detailed and production design, including structure, machinery, hull and outfitting.
  • Parts manufacturing and assembly, including prefabrication, shop automation, robotics,   assembly and accuracy control. 
  • Material management, including material control, supply chain management, logistics   and e-solutions.
  • Management of shipbuilding projects, including planning, work-flow analysis, PDM and ERP applications Management of cooperative working between different actors in   shipbuilding projects, e.g. shipyards and equipment and systems manufacturers.  
  • Commissioning, inspection and maintenance, including life-cycle maintenance, life-  cycle cost management, environmental cost management, parts and systems reliability,   inspection standards and risk management inspection standards, risk management and  security.
  • Skills management, knowledge transfer and other human resource issues. 
  • Innovation, innovation management and innovation impact assessment, including new   materials and eco design including new materials, green ships and eco design.

The conference will be taking place at the Savoia Excelsior Palace Hotel located in the heart of the city and overlooking the gulf of Trieste.

Trieste lies in a territory which extends from the highlands to the sea, in the northeast near Solvenia.  

The city is amongst the oldest in the whole of Italy. Here one can admire the Vittoria Lighthouse , the Grotta Gigante, the Cathedral of St Giusto , Duino Castle, Miramare Castle, the Castle of St Giusto , the Grotte of st Canziano, the Miramare Nature Reserve , the group of Anti-aircraft tunnels "Kleine Berlin" and the Palazzo del Governo.

The local cuisine has Venetian, Austrian and Friulian influences. First courses include "jota", "gnocchi de pan" and "gnochi de susini", whilst the best known desserts are perhaps the "struccalo de pomi" , "struccalo cotto", "krapfen" , "fritole" and "pinze".
