Late June saw Italian waterjet manufacturer Castoldi put the finishing touches to its new Turbodrive (TD) 600 HC model – hailed as the largest to date in the group’s waterjet range, and “the starting point of the new, large waterjet family that we plan to introduce to the market in the next few years,” owner Giacomo Castoldi tells Ship & Boat International.
Despite its size increase, the TD 600 HC has been designed to be relatively compact and light, featuring a dry weight of approximately 1.6tonnes and an impeller diameter of 600mm at the inlet. Entrained water volume is estimated to be around the 385litres mark.
The unit will feature a built-in gearbox, with 25 gear wheels ratio available. Maximum power input is predicted to be 1,985kW, enabling the model to serve a number of high-speed vessel applications – for instance, Castoldi says that the group has already received a number of enquiries from military and commercial customers, even at this developmental, pre-launch stage.
